Job Description:
General Summary of PositionWe are recruiting for an experienced
outpatient / community Pharmacist to join our MedStar Pharmacy DC
locations on a PRN basis. - Shifts that will need coverage are
10:30am-7:15pm Monday - Friday and 8am - 4pm Saturdays. -
Dual-licensed Pharmacist in both DC and MD is a plus. - -Evaluates
drugs prescribed by physicians for appropriateness of dose,
therapeutic efficacy, allergy, drug interaction, and
contraindications; processes prescriptions through insurance
company and handles DUR rejects, pre-authorizations, etc.; performs
final check on all prescriptions, ensuring accurate input,
labeling, and dispensing; and, provides counseling and drug
information to patients and physicians. MedStar Pharmacy is

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals
and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures,
quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental
and accreditation regulations.
- Acts as the pharmacist in charge in the absence of the manager:
directing workflow patterns, ensuring daily responsibilities are
carried out by assigned staff, resolving issues requiring
management intervention, and performing routine oversight of
pharmacy operations.
- Performs final check on all completed prescriptions, verifying
the accuracy of input, labeling, and dispensing; makes corrections
as necessary; maintains refill and narcotic logs, and prescription
files.
- Processes prescriptions in the dispensing system; evaluates
prescriptions for appropriateness of dose, therapeutic efficacy,
allergy, drug interactions, and contraindications; handles DURs,
rejects, preauthorizations, etc.; communicates with third party
payors to troubleshoot issues relating to coverage, reimbursement,
etc.
- Provides clinical information and guidance to physicians and
allied health professionals as appropriate to provide safe, prompt,
and accurate dispensing of all prescriptions; calls physicians and
follows up on refill requests; notifies physicians of Rx's
requiring pre-authorizations and discusses alternatives as
appropriate.
- Provides patient counseling as appropriate on a
patient-by-patient basis.
- Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the
department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participates
in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

Minimum Qualifications Education
- Licensed as a pharmacist in the District of Columbia (DC)
required
Experience
- 1-2 years Pharmacy experience, preferably in retail
required
Licenses and Certifications
- PHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist Current DC Pharmacist license,
including Immunization/Vaccination Certification and registration
with the board of pharmacy in that district required
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP)
for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association
(AHA) or American Red Cross required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
This position has a hiring range of $100,588 - $190,340
