specialty required License: Active Registered Nurse license
required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS required Must-Have: 2-3
years of experience in the specialty. 2-3 previous travel
assignments preferred. Ortho/Neuro experience preferred.
Description: The role involves working in a Post Anesthesia Care
Unit. The unit consists of 9 PACU bays and 16 Same-Day Surgery
bays. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 to 2 in Phase 1 and 1 to 5 in
Phase 2. Charge nurses work 7am to 7pm and may take an assignment
if needed. Weekend call is either Saturday or Sunday once a month.
There is one weeknight on-call shift per week. Scrubs are navy blue
and are not provided. Central monitoring systems are in use, and
nurses read but do not interpret strips. Nurses may titrate
vasopressors and sedatives in the PACU. Ventilator support is
provided, along with Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow oxygen. A
hospitalist is available in-house 24/7. Pharmacy services are
available 24/7 with medication management. Shifts can be 8, 10, or
12 hours with varied start times. Floating to other areas may be
necessary as needed. Common cases include all surgical procedures
except open-heart surgeries. ICU patients typically remain in the
recovery room for one hour during regular hours. After hours, ICU
patients are taken directly to the ICU, except for some surgeries
which may remain in recovery. Travelers cannot self-schedule but
may have block scheduling if needed. Cancellation policy allows
clients to cancel a limited number of shifts based on the
assignment length. Charting is done using an electronic medical
record system.
