to hire a Maternal Child Health Technician in the NICU Department

making a difference. Maternal/Child Health Technician: Full Time,
7:30am- 8:00pm (Days) three 12-hr shifts, including every other
weekend. Pay Range: $18.88-30.21 (actual offers are based upon the
applicants relevant experience pertaining to the requirements of
the position) The MCHT assists patients with newborns with
activities of daily living, provide basic nursing care to
non-acutely ill patients, and provide support in the LDR, Operating
Rooms of Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Transitional Nursery, NICU
(neonatal intensive care unit) and assist in the maintenance of a
safe and clean environment. The Maternal Child Health Technician:
Assists during the following obstetrical surgical procedures:
cesarean section, Dilation & Curettage (D&C), tubal ligation,
and cerclage placement and removal. Under the direction of the RN,
performs the following nursing care activities according to
established guidelines: surgical preparations; assisting patients
to the bathroom and/or out of bed; Foley catheter insertion or
discontinuation, measuring and recording of intake and output and
vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, height,
blood pressure, pain) in a timely manner in the electronic medical
record (EMR) and communicates findings as appropriate to RN;
applying non-sterile dressings; obtaining specimens; blood draws,
finger sticks, inserts intravenous lines/saline locks, performs
PKU’s, CCHD (critical congenital heart disease) and hearing
screenings, ambulating, turning, positioning and transporting
patients; providing mouth care and exercise to patients. Records
observations of patient’s condition, the care provided and the
patient’s responses. Reports to the Team Leader or Charge Nurse all
observed changes and/or abnormalities in the condition of patients
to whom assigned. Observes, documents and monitors vital signs.
Measures and records intake (fluid/food) and output (bodily
functions/bodily drainage). Collaborates with the Unit Secretary to
ensure appropriate recording of labor statistics. Practice
appropriate infection control procedures, and maintains a safe,
clean, comfortable aseptic environment; includes cleaning equipment
(including isolettes, bassinets, and warmers) used in patient care,
stocking rooms and supply carts /cabinets, checking for and
removing expired supplies. Performs personal hygiene activities for
the patients to include peri-care, grooming, bed making, cleaning
and tidying bedside stand and over-bed table. Collects specimens,
including venipuncture, properly labels all specimens and assists
nursing staff with proper requisitioning. Feeds patients including
transitional and normal newborn babies (excluding special feeding
situation); serves meals, snacks, fresh ice and water. Assists in
the admission and discharge of patients, including but not limited
to: patient orientation to the room and the unit; preparation of
units, patient rooms and beds; processing patient valuables;
stocking the patient’s room. Responds to the patient’s requests
(including call bells) and directs as necessary to the nurse.
Performs a variety of transport/delivery activities related to the
care of patients when such service is not available. Transports
patient care equipment from one area to another, including
assisting with the placement and assembling of such equipment.
Checks unit equipment and reports malfunctioning and assists in
maintaining adequate levels of supplies/equipment. Collaborates
with the Unit Secretary to ensure ordering of materials and
supplies. Prepares patients, supplies and equipment for labor and
delivery surgical cases and procedures (i.e. circumcisions) on
postpartum, neonatal ICU and nursery in a timely manner. Transport
and collect instruments from sterile processing, cleans and
packages instruments, and resets rooms after use, ensuring
sterility and availability of instruments and packages. Controls
traffic flow in labor and delivery sterile areas and observes
persons entering labor and delivery surgical area for proper
attire. Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related
and appropriate to the position and area. The above
responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature
of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be
considered as all-inclusive. Minimum Requirements Include: High
school degree or GED diploma is required. Successful completion of
a hospital- or school-based training program for Operating Room
Technician (ORT) or Labor and Delivery Scrub Technician. Completion
of an approved phlebotomy course preferred. 2 years of experience
as Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant and/or Scrub Technician
experience in an acute care patient setting. Current certification
as CNA, EMT or PCT in the District of Columbia, or a Nursing
Student (RN Program) with completion of at least one year of
clinical rotation. (Surgical Technician national certification will
also be accepted.) Current Basic Life Support certification through
American Heart Association Completion of an approved phlebotomy
