21702 USA The Frederick National Laboratory is operated by Leidos
Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent
and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and
AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials,
applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to
emerging threats of infectious diseases. Accountability,

it's the FNL way. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The Environment, Health, and
Safety (EHS) programs at the Frederick National Laboratory for
Cancer Research and the National Cancer Institute at Frederick
provide comprehensive professional EHS services to employees
working in general offices, industrial shops, experimental research
laboratories, and animal care environments. Work is performed
within the offices of the EHS Directorate and on multiple campuses
in various customer locations. KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES Support
the scientific mission by conducting surveys, inspections, and
audits of work areas to assess safe working conditions and work
practices, report results, and guide corrective actions. Perform
risk/exposure assessments of various processes/work
activities/disciplines (i.e., laboratory, cGMP, maintenance, and
animal facility operations). Manage and administer training and
employee instruction on safety and health topics. Manage the
implementation of Industrial Hygiene programs (e.g., IH equipment
calibrations, exposure monitoring for mold, indoor air quality,
welding fumes, chlorine dioxide and VHP biological decontamination
support etc.). Create, update, and implement programs to align with
new/updated standards (e.g., Methylene Chloride, Heat Stress, etc.)
Occasionally support hazardous spill cleanup monitoring, assist in
hazard decontamination, provide assistance, and other
services/support to other EHS programs as needed. Operate and
maintain specialized equipment and instrumentation. Maintain
effective communications (verbal and written) with a broad range of
employees. Use relevant software and systems to complete duties and
maintain records (Cority, SIIMS). Communicate formal work practice
recommendation and assessment reports to management. Record and
formally document deviations and corrective actions utilizing the
safety management system. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS To be considered for
this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and
abilities listed below: Possession of Bachelor’s degree from an
accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher
Education Accreditation (CHEA) or four (4) years relevant
experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for
U.S. equivalency In addition to the education requirements, a
minimum of two (2) years of industrial hygiene related experience
is required Ability to obtain a professional certification (i.e.,
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Ability to
obtain industry certifications including Professional (CSP), or
Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification Experience with
and the ability to provide safety training (e.g., Respiratory
Protection, Hearing Conservation, HAZCOM, etc.) Ability to work
autonomously and independently coordinate and prioritize multiple
tasks Ability to use Microsoft Office and web-based applications at
an intermediate to advanced level Familiarity with data entry and
use of a variety of databases Ability to maintain a high level to
attention to detail Ability to interact with internal and external
customers and provide strong customer service in a collegial manner
Ability to maintain confidence pertaining to occupational exposure,
incident, medical and similar data Ability to think critically in
situations where limited variables exist and draw a valid
conclusion Ability to ascertain situations, develop a reasonable
and valid solution, and implement accordingly Knowledge of safety
regulations and standards including but not limited to OSHA, EPA,
COMAR, ANSI, NFPA and the ability to apply This position is
designated as an Occasional Driver and must have no more than 3
demerit points in the previous twelve (12) months or five (5)
demerit points in the preceding thirty-six (36) months as
determined by Leidos Biomed Use of Government Owned or Leased
Vehicles Policy Ability to work in a hybrid position at the
designated onsite work location at Fort Detrick in Frederick,
Maryland as required at least four (4) days a week. This position
requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., walk, climb, bend,
stoop and to go into confined spaces and has the potential for
exposure to biological, chemical, and other laboratory hazards.
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS Candidates with these desired skills will be given
preferential consideration: Possession of a professional
certification (i.e., Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH),
Certified Safety Possession of industry certifications including
Professional (CSP), or Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
certification JOB HAZARDS This position is subject to working with
or have potential for exposure to animal(s) and/or animal
material(s). This position is subject to working with or have
potential for exposure to infectious material, requiring medical
clearance and immunizations. This position is subject to
atmospheric conditions that would require the usage of a
respirator, requiring medical clearance. This position may require
continuous or intermittent exposure to and exertion in
environmental conditions such as working outdoors, temperature
extremes, humidity extremes. etc. as part of the job. This position
may require the use of ladders and/or fall protection systems as

pay range for this job is a general guideline and not a guarantee
of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in
extending an offer include, but are not limited to,
responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge,

with market data. The salary range posted is a full-time equivalent
salary and will vary depending on scheduled hours for part time
