Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP Must-Have: C-section experience is
required. Candidate must be able to circulate and recover.
Description: The unit consists of six "homelike" suites with
private bathrooms where labor and delivery occur, along with
private showers. All patients with unscheduled visits are seen in
the OB Emergency Department, which is a four-bed unit located
within the OB Department. The postpartum area includes eleven
private rooms. Last year, there were approximately 1,050 births
with about 3,000 OB Emergency Department and outpatient visits. The
following certifications are required: BLS, ACLS, and NRP. In-house
assistance from NICU is available with STABLE certification. We do
not require fetal heart monitoring certification, but staff are
trained to have intermediate skills. Two years of labor and
delivery experience is preferred, along with one year of
mother-baby experience. First-time travelers are welcome. The
nurse-to-patient ratio follows AWHONN guidelines with 1-2 for labor
and delivery and 4 couplets for mother-baby care. The facility
utilizes a Centricity FHM system and EPIC as the electronic medical
record. There is a charge nurse for each side 24/7, and they also
take an assignment. OB technicians are available on the unit to
assist with circulating and recovery, and then patients are
transferred to postpartum. Every other weekend and holiday
participation is required. Scrubs are provided for labor and
delivery staff. Telemetry can be placed on the floor and is
monitored in the telemetry room. Vents are not available, but there
is an in-house 24/7 OB hospitalist and neonatology support. RT and
pharmacy services are also available 24/7. All shifts are 12 hours,
beginning at 0700 and 1900. Common diagnoses include high-risk
cases with capability to manage in-house. The facility has been
designated as baby-friendly and earned advanced perinatal care
certification. It also participates in several safety initiatives
and has systems in place for infant security and lactation support.
Cancellation policy allows for the cancellation of two shifts per
